Vermillion Theater Restoration Lands Large Grant

VERMILLION, S.D. | An effort to preserve two downtown movie theaters in Vermillion has received a big boost from the Bush Foundation.

The Downtown Vermillion Cultural Association was awarded a $10,000 Bush Foundation grant through the South Dakota Community Foundation.

It supports the association’s purchase, renovation and operation of the two Vermillion movie theaters.

The association bought the Vermillion Theater and nearby Coyote Twin earlier this year when it appeared they might close.

A partnership with the University of South Dakota was formed, and the school directed money it would have spent bringing movies to campus toward the theater project. USD also plans to partner with the association to bring other programming to the theaters. Read More
